The iWatchDog
Program and ICCS Certification, were
first introduced in 1994. The iWatchDog
Program consists of a number of services most
of which are designed to help educate Internet
users how to use the Internet more productively
and avoid risk of danger from those who choose
to use the Internet for unlawful means.
Privacy, Security,
and Consumer Protection are three primary
concerns today of most anyone who uses the
Internet or is in business today. The iWatchDog
Program has a variety of specialized services
which help consumers fight back against these
concerns. In addition, we provide solutions
through ICCS Certification, that add value
to products and services. When a consumer
sees the iWatchDog seal, they know it is a
product or service that is ICCS Certified
and that it is one which they can depend upon.
Family-Friendly
Sites support the online safety of family
members using the Internet. They appropriately
offer prescreened/qualifying websites a designation
that will be easily recognized by family members
and other Internet users.
Family-Friendly
Site emblems are trademarks of Family-Friendly
Sites(TM) and may only
be displayed on sites that display content
and links that support family physical, mental,
and emotional development in a healthy way.
The SafeSurf Rating
Standard is a voluntary rating system designed
to protect children, as well as the first
amendment rights of their parents. It was
developed with input from thousands of parents
and Net citizens, worldwide.
It's structure
is different from other rating systems in
several ways. First, it is more detailed.
Second, its goal is to objectively describe
both content and how that content is presented.
Third, it is the first system designed to
allow those who self-rate and those who evaluate
to have enough flexibility to reach an accord
on a rating without compromising SafeSurf's
purpose of protecting the innocence of children.
The SuperStar Project follows the Pop-Up Free Code of Conduct
by choosing not to serve
any popup advertising, and not
to serve any spyware or spam.
Pop-Up Free Code of Conduct:
Our site does not serve pop-up
or pop-under advertising on any of our Web
sites.
Our site does not offer services
that install hidden, ad-supported programs
onto users' computers on any of our sites.
Our site does not knowingly work
with companies who engage in advertising through
spyware, hidden ad-supported downloads or
similar ad activities, to drive users to any
of our Web sites.
The Internet Content
Rating Association is an international, independent
organization that empowers the public, especially
parents, to make informed decisions about
electronic media by means of the open and
objective labeling of content. ICRA's dual
aims are to:
protect children from potentially
harmful material; and,
to protect free speech on
the Internet.
There are two elements
to the system:
Web authors fill
in an online questionnaire describing the
content of their site, simply in terms of
what is and isn't present. ICRA then generates
a Content Label (a short piece of computer
code) which the author adds to his/her site.
Users, especially
parents of young children, can then set their
Internet browser to allow or disallow access
to web sites based on the objective information
declared in the label and the subjective preferences
of the user.
ICRA works in collaboration
with i-config to visit sites within our database
periodically and, as far as possible using
an automated system, to verify whether the
labels found are valid. I-config is a research
group within the Software and Knowledge Engineering
Laboratory at the Greek National Centre for
Scientific Research (NCSR “Demokritos")
in Athens.
As well as verifying
that sites listed in the ICRA database exist
and that labels found are correct from a technical
point of view, an automatic analysis of the
site is carried out using the Filterix®
analyzer. This is an artificial intelligence
system that has been “trained”
to generate one of a limited set of ICRA labels
depending on the outcome of its analysis of
a site. If the analyzer's result and the label
found are very different, ICRA staff are alerted
and corrective procedures are immediatly initated.
